Feasibility study for the southern extension of Mila town (northeast of Algeria) for urbanization purposes: a geotechnical and hydrogeophysical approach

The population of Mila is increasing and local authorities are looking for new lands to develop the town provide housing. However, soil these unstable requires detailed studies serve as a foundation. This work presents geotechnical geophysical characteristics Marechau soils, which forms southeast extension town. To an idea about condition, choose type adequate constructions make decision building it, we adopted approach, where analysed soils by carrying out core drilling tests, dynamic penetration tests laboratory tests. We also, employed approach in determining electrical resistivity so map depth bedrock roof. Furthermore, conducted comprehensive hydrogeological study, monitoring precipitation piezometric level aquifer over period 200 days, determined flow direction. test results indicate clayey with limestone blocks. show two categories soil. that materials very plastic, over-consolidated medium compressible. They have high swelling potential amount aggressiveness concrete. Besides, tomography also showed single layer land (clay) massive rocks embedded it. reveals presence systems. first superficial second deep. don’t recharge directly after rain falls groundwater flows direction slope. All solutions must be found movements area under study before urbanization takes place. combination location, morphology, tectonic activity, seismotectonic aspects suggest risk, its rigorous mandatory precautionary measures.
